Back to a graceful, assertively feminine elegance

1950s inspired clothing made in France

My garments are inspired by designs of the 1950s. Some pieces even are – slightly adapted – reproductions of original designs. Others are reinterpretations of iconic trends of this era. What they all have in common is that they are made with great care, attention to every detail and traditional tailoring techniques in my workshop in southern France. I exclusively select high quality materials for a comfortable and durable wear.

I’ve long been fascinated by the very unique style of this era, most prominently represented by actresses like Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren or Elizabeth Taylor: A way to dress that combines self confident femininity and natural grace. I always was especially impressed by the way clothes were made, involving careful hand work, elaborate skill and lots of patience.

20 years ago, when I was living in Berlin, you could still find original pieces from the fifties. But since fabric, even well conserved, doesn’t last forever, it has become more and more difficult over the years. Thus, one day, I decided to make myself the clothes I couldn’t find anymore in the flea markets and thrift stores. When, a couple of years later, I started to learn the sewing trade in Marseilles, I emphasized from the beginning on traditional techniques and dealing with original patterns in order to resew and adapt garments from the 1950s.

My interpretation of 50s fashion design is characterized by subtlety and versatility. Rather than aiming for a nostalgic, purely vintage style, I’d like to widen the choice of ways to dress by adding the dimension of time, that is proposing a characteristic style of another era that can be integrated in a contemporary context. My designs are distinctively 50s but nevertheless comfortable to wear and easily adaptable for any occasion.
